Paul Aguirre

At a noisy series of caucuses that involved two shooting incidents and eighteen stabbings, with a final meeting in the refugee camp informally known as "the Raft" near the L.A. gate, out of reach of the LAPD, the political parties that make up the Movement have anointed a Candidate.

Voted down, four time challenger Jesus Albacarrin of the CCP (California Communist Party). In previous, largely hopeless, elections, the organizational was dominated by the CCP structure of paid political lackeys, while the other movement parties concentrated on trying to win a few assembly streets in the hopelessly gerrymandered districts of L.A.

The new nominee, Paul Aguirre comes out of relative obscurity, and was the product of a coalition of his own EPIC party (End Poverty in California), CSP (California Socialist Party), FNHL (Frente Nacional Hispana de Liberación) and a last minute alliance with the traditionally dissidient ACC (Accion Catolica California),

Of the supporting parties only EPIC is a "legitimate" political party, however that is enough to put Aguirre on the Ballot in November. Movement Candidates have traditionally run on the EPIC ticket. EPIC was founded by Upton Sinclair in 1934, and is considered by many to be the core of the moderate movement. EPIC has often acted as the "political arm" of the Movement, much as Sinn Fein acted as the political arm of the Irish Republican Army.

Despite a Hispanic surname, Aguirre has English, Scots-Irish, and Paiute Indian ancestry. He attended UCLA, and graduated with a degree in Law. He worked as an Assistant in the office of the Federal District Attorney, but was dismissed in 1964(LA) on charges of corruption, largely based on his associations with the Movement.

LAPD sources say they regard Aguirre as the Director of Intelligence for the Movement, and believe he is the current Chair of the Shadow Government. This would mark the first time since 1958 that a leading Movement figure has emerged to appear on a public ballot. Investigations are underway, and there are rumors that arrest warrants may be planned for Aguirre and other movement leaders, though the Deputy Mayor has said that "there are no charges against Mr. Aguirre at this time."

Ramrod straight and well spoken, Aguirre gave an acceptance speech in which he said...

"The Movement has used force against the Government of Los Angeles. Where hope is denied, where there is no legitimacy to the power structure, force becomes the only recourse. When in the course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bonds which have connected them with another, our forbears believed and understood that force of arms might be the only recourse. The Movement is not unwilling to cease its attacks. I have spoken with leaders of the Movement. I believe that if I am elected Mayor I can make peace with them. The Movement has made a serious offer of a Cease-Fire if the City Council will approve the redistricting plan drawn up by Rep. Juan Barrios of Ward 45, resulting in fair and representational electoral Districts, and grant equal access to Television and Radio time for Movement Candidates.

I am not a radical. But the time has come to take down the entire structure of the Los Angeles Government, and replace it with a nation state that is fair to all its citizens and suitable to the times in which we live. The United States is a dead fiction, it's once proud flag nothing more than a shroud to hide the bankrupt kleptocracy that currently runs our nation. I am not a militant. I will work in coordination with the Admiral and others to maintain the commitments of Los Angles abroad in the DEI and elsewhere, to the extent that a careful review shows those commitments to be in the best interests of all of the people.

I will work to expand the sphere of our settlements and alleviate our crushing poverty and overcrowding, to open up more raid access to Oregon and other spheres. But in doing so I will take care to avoid both foreign conflicts, or mistreatment of the native peoples. This is a time of emergency and we all must share fairly. That means land as well as food and other resources. But we will not make others slaves to make ourselves free. I do not delude myself that all neighbors will accept this policy without force of arms. But I do promise that force of arms will be a last recourse after diplomacy and reason have failed. We will resettle Mulholland before we will become conquerors. Much can be done to alleviate the miseries of Los Angeles if all Los Angelenos are equal, rather than a vast underclass buoying an artifical middle class that makes up less than ten percent of the population."

LATV-1 gave only brief coverage to the announcement and it was not mentioned at all on LATV-3. A brief profile of Aguirre was shown on UTV-5, however the nomination received extensive coverage in the Hearst Press and the Collegian.
